In just one month since launching, Tambala Market has grown from an idea into a living, breathing marketplace where Malawian buyers and sellers are discovering new opportunities every day. And it’s not just online — people are talking about it in their circles, offices, and even at foreign country embassy offices. The buzz shows that digital commerce is now a tangible, exciting part of everyday life in Malawi.
The early signals are promising: over 100 sellers joined, with 40+ sellers listing over 130 active products. We recorded over MWK 690,000 in total sales. That figure matters not because of its size, but because it confirms something more important: buyers and sellers completed real transactions in a brand-new system. Six sellers made sales in the first 30 days. That may sound small—but it’s exactly how marketplaces begin. Early sellers prove demand, refine operations, and show others that selling online can work.
Buyers Are Showing Up—Mostly on Mobile
Tambala welcomed more than 2,100 unique visitors in its first month, generating over 9,000 page views. Over 82% of sessions came from mobile devices, confirming that Tambala is being used exactly as designed: phone-first, low-friction, and accessible.
People are exploring. Comparing. Learning how the marketplace works. That behavior is the precursor to scale.
Payments and Trust: Quietly Doing Their Job
One of the strongest signals from Month 1 didn’t come with a headline: zero failed payments.
Through our partnership with OneKhusa, every completed transaction cleared successfully. Sellers got paid. Buyers checked out smoothly — and that’s the goal.

Delivery That Reaches Beyond Cities
Commerce only works if goods move. Through Speed Courier, Tambala now supports door-to-door delivery in Lilongwe, Blantyre, Mzuzu, and Zomba—along with courier services reaching all districts nationwide.

This ensures sellers can reach buyers far beyond their immediate neighborhoods.
Our Sellers Now Have Full Websites
One of the biggest milestones of the month is our completely redesigned seller stores. Each seller now has a store that functions like a full online business — fully branded, fully managed, and fully ready for sales. Our goal is to ensure that not having technical skills is never a barrier to operating an online business. This redesign empowers businesses and individual sellers to operate like professional e-commerce merchants without needing technical skills or third-party integrations.
With Tambala Market handling payments via OneKhusa and logistics via Speed Courier, sellers can focus on growing their business while we ensure checkout, delivery, and support run smoothly.
Checkout some of our favorite stores: ZAMANI BRACELETS, House of ARIONA, TOPLINE INVESTMENTS, S.Shalom Investments, Unique Tees General Dealers, Lakini’s Gift Shop, and more.

What’s Next: Month 2
In Month 2, our focus is clear and measurable. We are aiming to grow every core marketplace metric by 5–10×, including:
Active buyers and sellers
Products listed
Completed transactions
Repeat usage
We’ll do this by:
Expanding seller onboarding and verification
Rolling out Ads and Sponsored Listings more broadly
Improving product discovery and conversion
Deepening logistics and payment reliability - We are adding more delivery options through partnerships with delivery companies.
Continuing to optimize for mobile performance
Recruiting the best talent
No pivots. No shortcuts. Just execution as we are gearing up for our public launch in early April.
What This Means for Malawi
In a country where buying and selling often requires travel, cash, and time, these first 30 days show that digital commerce can be practical—not theoretical.
Tambala is proving that a local marketplace, built for Malawian realities, can work. Step by step. Seller by seller. Order by order. And now, by sharing our story publicly, we’re inviting more Malawians to join the journey.
Thank you to every seller, buyer, and partner who helped make Month 1 possible. Month 2 is already underway.
